Natural Color by Sasha Duerr (Book Review)

Discovering how to use what grows abundantly around us is something I am very passionate about learning. There are SO many different ways to use plants and cooking only scratches the surface.

Plants can be used for medicine, clothing, decoration, basketry, building, paints, crafts, and so much more. I love the fact that as long as I live I will never be done learning all the different ways to use what is around me. Nature is abundant and abundantly fascinating.

Because of my love of all things natural I was very excited to learn about Sasha Duerr's book, Natural Color: Vibrant Plant Dyes Projects for your Home and Wardrobe. It is as beautiful as it is intriguing.

Now, to be completely honest, I have yet to try a project from it, but I've been goggling over them for months now. She organizes her book by season which is really helpful, so hopefully soon I will have a project I can post about on my Facebook page. But, if learning more about plants and the different ways to use them is something you are interested in, I highly recommend you check this book out. Her recipes look pretty easy to follow, too.

I am definitely a visual learner so having these sorts of projects in written format is a little harder for me so I was really excited to see that Duerr has this short video online, too. I wish she had her own YouTube channel, but she does have lots of classes she teaches if you live in the Bay Area! Maybe I'll take a road trip one of these days.

In any case, I'm slowly going to start building up my collection of white natural fiber clothing items from thrift stores so I can actually make some of her awesome projects very soon! This will be an exciting learning curve. You should get the book and join me!

Here are a few other books on the same subject that look intriguing. Enjoy dreaming about life in natural color!

The Handbook of Natural Plant Dyes by Sasha Duerr
A Garden to Dye For by Chris McLaughlin
Harvesting Color: How to Find Plants and Make Natural Dyes by Rebecca Burgess
